Galway Sinn Fein to plant an Irish Unity Tree in honour of Liam Mellows

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway Sinn Féin will plant an Irish Unity Tree in memory of Liam Mellows in Athenry Community Park tomorrow afternoon, Saturday 17th September.

He led the Easter Rising in Galway and the tree planting ceremony is part of the party's programme of events to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Liam Mellows' execution in December 1922.

Athenry Park is within a few hundred yards of where Mellows lived in Athenry prior to the 1916 rising.

Proceedings will be chaired by the party's Galway East representative Louis O'Hara while Ballinasloe area Cllr Dermot Connolly will plant the tree at 1pm tomorrow
