Government "prepared" to support reopening of Dunguaire Castle

Government is prepared to financially support the reopening of Dungauire Castle in Kinvara - but won't cover the full cost.

That's according to Minister Peter Burke, responding to a question from Galway East TD Louis O' Hara.

The castle has been closed for years now and is understood to need a multi-million euro investment to bring it up to standard.

Galway County Council is willing to purchase and renovate the privately-owned castle, but cannot afford to do so from its own budget.

Minister Peter Burke said Government will front money through Failte Ireland - but only if others come on board as well.
