Health workers at UHG, Merlin Park and Portiuncula hospitals begin strike action

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Health workers at UHG, Merlin Park Hospital and Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe have begun strike action this morning.

10-thousand staff nationwide including cleaners, porters and chefs are walking off the job for 24 hours today in a SIPTU row over job evaluations.

More strikes are planned next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday if there's no resolution.

38 hospitals and healthcare facilities nationwide will have reduced services today.
