Local Senator says drug decriminalisation is "caving in to the left"

One of the factors in a growing push for the decriminalisation of drug use could be middle class people not wanting their "little darlings" to fall foul of the law.

That's the view that's been expressed by Ahascragh-based Senator Ronan Mullen in the Seanad.

He criticised what he called the centrist parties for "caving in to the left" - and argued it is a permissive and dangerous approach.

It comes after an Oireachtas Committee recommended the decriminalisation of possession of all drugs for personal use, saying it would be treated as a health issue rather than a criminal offense.

Independent Senator Mullen completely disagrees - and here's what he had to say.
