Locals 'hopeful' upcoming vote will protect Geopark from large windfarm on Galway/Mayo border

A local community is hopeful an upcoming vote among Mayo County Councillors will protect a Geopark from becoming the location of a large windfarm.

It would be a 13 turbine wind farm in Mayo, on lands close to Glencorrib, a few kilometres from Headford.

They'll be discussing their county renewable energy strategy next Monday, with hopes they will deem the Joyce Contry & Western Lakes UNESCO Global Geopark unsuitable.

However, on the same day, An Coimisiún Pleanála is due to issue its decision on the early-stage pre-application case.
