Loughrea Councillor Jimmy McClearn has suggested greenway funding be diverted in the short term toward footpath repairs.
Not all councillors in the area were in agreement with the idea - with Cllr Martina Kinnane saying it might create a perception they are not in favour of greenways.
The issue of footpath and pothole maintenance comes up in almost every Municipal District meeting in the area, with funding being cited the main barrier.
Councillor McClearn told Sarah Slevin he is not opposing greenway projects, but there needs to be a better balance
