New infrastructure planned for Portumna to boost tourism industry

Galway Bay fm newsroom - A Galway-based Minister of State says plans for a development by Waterways Ireland in Portumna will lead to a major upgrade in water-based recreational infrastructure.

Junior Minister and Galway East T.D, Ciaran Cannon says Fáilte Ireland and Waterways Ireland are working to enhance the quality of the visitor and user experience along the River Shannon.

The first phase will involve the development of a new route or blueway connecting Portumna Bridge to Lough Derg Water Recreation Park via a new boardwalk.

Phase 2 will see the construction of a new marina and car parking area.
