Over 3,000 signatures on petition to reopen Galway Airport

An online petition to reopen Galway Airport has gathered just over 3,300 signatures.

The airport at Carnmore has been closed to flights for over a decade, and the site has been used for concerts in recent years.

Those behind it are looking to bring the petition to the City and County Councils - and say it would bring benefits such as economic growth, tourism potential and transport connectivity.

The petition was created in May 2025, and picked up pace recently, gathering around a thousand signatures in the past month.

The council has been seeking expressions of interest for the site over the past six months, and that process is still ongoing.
