Plans for leisure centre in Salthill turned down

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Plans to convert a former driving range in Salthill into a leisure centre have been rejected by city planners.

The developer had intended to convert the range into a leisure and wellness facility, that would include yoga and gym facilities, as well as a cafe.

However, planners found the project is incompatiable with the zoning objectives of the land, as defined in the Galway City Development Plan.

In rejecting the application, they also noted the operation of the proposed leisure centre could affect the development of a Greenway/Cycle network in the area.
