Plans are moving forward for an ambitious modern overhaul of Ballinasloe town centre.
'Ballinasloe Town First' would transform the streetscape, as well as inject new life into areas like Fairgreen.
These plans were developed following extensive engagement with the local community on what they'd like to see in Ballinasloe.
As one urban designer put it at a presentation this week - this isn't our vision, it's not even the council's vision - it's the people's vision.
It's all about revitalising the town centre with a modern look, and integrating key focal points like Fairgreen, The Square, and the River Suck.
This could include new footpaths, public lighting, outdoor seating and public spaces, as well as new cycle and walkways, and improved connectivity through redesigned laneways.
There were two issues overwhelmingly identified in public surveys as being top priority - first is the tackling of vacant buildings, followed by the reimagining of Fairgreen as a year-round family space.
This isn't a short term plan though, and there's still a lot to be done before any work is carried out on the ground.
The design team will look to finalise the blueprint in the coming months, and then it'll be a case of Galway County Council considering where the money will come from to transform it into reality.
