Remains of a further 22 babies in coffins found during Tuam excavation

The remains of a further 22 babies have been found in coffins during the excavation of the former Mother and Baby Home site in Tuam.

It brings the total number of remains discovered to 99, since the dig began over a year ago.

62 DNA samples have now been taken from survivors and relatives, and delivered to Forensic Science Ireland.

Tomorrow, officials from the Authorised Intervention team are meeting Tuam survivors and family members to update them on the excavation work and to outline their approach to forensic analysis.
