A row has erupted among councillors over the poor quality of grasscutting being carried out in Ballinasloe.
They're not happy with the work being done by a contractor - and the discussion at this month's meeting took a turn after a proposal from one councillor.
This row started off about the cutting of grass in local estates - and ended up as a full blown critique of the failures of Government.
At the moment, a contractor is doing much of the grass-cutting work in Ballinasloe, because the council doesn't have enough ground staff.
And there was broad agreement this week that the work isn't up to scratch and council staff are sometimes cleaning up afterwards.
Kicking off the row though, Fine Gael Councillor Alan Harney proposed that the contract be ended, and the money spent on employing more direct staff instead.
But this prompted his Sinn Fein colleague Dermot Connolly to brand the idea a political stunt, and little more than an attempt for headlines and clout on social media.
It's precisely because of Fine Gael, he continued, that there's inadequate funding for Galway County Council and a lack of council staff to do the jobs themselves.
But Councillor Harney didn't take too kindly to that, saying that like everyone else, he was just trying to do the best job he could for the area.
He denied he was playing both Government and opposition, adding he's always advocated for improved funding, including direct conversations with Ministers.
In any case, management indicated a contract can't just be abruptly terminated nor can new staff be secured and trained from thin air - but maybe the proposal can be looked at next year]
