Teach Solais LGBT+ resource centre in city secures funding lifeline

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Funding has been secured to ensure services are maintained until the end of the year at Teach Solais LGBT+ resource centre in the city.

There were fears the centre at Victoria Place would have to close its doors due to a shortfall in funding.

Teach Solais is operated by Amach! LGBT Galway, a charity which represents and advocates on behalf of the LGBT+ community in the city and county.

The centre opened in 2017 and provides a health and wellbeing hub for the community.

The group has secured 25 thousand euro from the Department of Community and Rural Affairs and a further 5 thousand euro from the city council.

The group says while the funding will allow operations to continue to early 2020, a more sustainable funding stream is vital moving forward.
