Galway Bay fm newsroom - Almost 13 percent of primary school children in Galway were taught in oversized classes last year.

The Irish Independent has revealed that pupils in rural areas are more likely to be in overcrowded classes.

Over 11 percent of young children across the country are in classes with more than 30 pupils.

12.8 percent of pupils in schools across Galway were being taught in oversized classes during the last academic year.

The county with the highest percentage of oversized classes is Leitrim at 18.6 percent.

While Laois has the lowest percentage of overcrowding in primary schools at just 6.5 percent.
