Fine Gael councillor Clodagh Higgins has made the proposal following the high profile closures of Debenhams and Laura Ashley in recent days.

The proposed taskforce would bring together stakeholders from retail, hospitality, tourism, media, and representatives from State agencies like the Local Enterprise Office.

Councillor Higgins has written to the city chief executive in a bid to have such an enterprise forum considered.
