A Fianna Fáil convention is taking place in Salthill this evening to select a candidate to contest the Galway West bye-election.
The party is somewhat behind the curve, with 11 other candidates, including all the main parties, having already declared their intentions.
The eleven other candidates are Independents Mike Cubbard, Thomas Welby and Sheila Garrity, Sean Kyne of Fine Gael, Mark Lohan of Sinn Fein, Niall Murphy of the Green Party, Míde Nic Fhionnlaoich of the Social Democrats, Orla Nugent of Aontú, Helen Ogbu of Labour, Denman Rooke of People Before Profit/Solidarity and Independent Ireland's Noel Thomas.
The Fianna Fail hopefuls are city councillor Alan Cheevers, Oranmore-based county councillor Cillian Keane and Connemara councillor Máirtín Lee.
Former Fianna Fáil TD for the constituency, Éamon Ó Cuív, was speculated to be a candidate for the party but ruled himself out last December.
The convention takes place at the Galway Bay Hotel this evening at 7pm and Minister Dara Calleary will chair the event.
