Loughrea councillor calls for floodgates on Connacht Harbour in Portumna

Galway Bay fm newsroom - A local councillor in Loughrea has called for the installation of floodgates on the Connacht Harbour in Portumna.

Councillor Jimmy McClearn says that floodwaters from the River Shannon have previously caused businesses in the area to flood.

He says that current levels of rainfall are causing the water levels in the river to rise, and says a floodgate is needed to prevent winter flooding going forward.

However, he says that progress on its planning and development has been slow.
