Minister gives commitment the early morning Athenry train will be retained

The Minister for Transport has given a commitment that the early morning Athenry train will be retained.

The 6.50am service was funded as part of the ongoing redevelopment works at Ceannt Station, and the NTA had said it could not continue past August.

However, the issue has been raised numerous times in the Dáil since then, while a petition calling for its retention has gathered over 1,600 signatures.

Galway East TD Louis O'Hara says he received the assurance from Darragh O'Brien, but says the wider battle to improve transport services in the area will continue
