Mayor of Galway, city councillor Mike Cubbard will contest the upcoming Galway West by-election.
The Independent Councillor is currently in his third term as Mayor, and has been a city councillor for more than a decade.
The Westside-native has previously contested four general elections in the Galway West constituency - the first in 2011 and the most recent in 2024.
It brings to eleven the number of candidates confirmed to contest the by-election, which will be held on either May 15th or 22nd.
Mayor Cubbard is the third Independent candidate to join the race, with candidates also confirmed for most of the main parties aside from Fianna Fáil - which is holding its selection convention this Sunday.
